Full Name: Flavius Arcadius Augustus
Dynasty: Theodosian
State: Eastern Roman Empire
Reign: 383-408 AD

Arcadius was the eldest son of Emperor Theodosius I and Aelia Flaccilla. Raised in Constantinople, Arcadius was elevated to Augustus by his father in 383 AD and became the sole ruler of the Eastern Roman Empire upon Theodosius's death in 395 AD

Arcadius ascended the throne at the age of 17 and was initially under the influence of his minister Rufinus. His early reign was marked by internal power struggles and the influence of powerful advisors. Rufinus's ambition was curtailed when he was assassinated in 395 AD, and Eutropius, a eunuch court official, took his place

Arcadius's reign saw the construction of significant buildings and columns in Constantinople, including the famous Column of Arcadius, which commemorated his achievements and the city's importance

Despite being seen as a weak emperor due to his reliance on advisors, Arcadius played a crucial role in the development of the Eastern Roman Empire. His support for Christianity and architectural contributions left a lasting impact on Constantinople and the broader empire
